Great Neck Run
5.7-mile Loop in Waterford, CT 
Start this 5.7-mile jog at Great Neck Elementary School, running along the sidewalk on Goshen Road.
A residential neighborhood, this area offers quiet roads, manicured lawns and the chance to see deer, rabbits and other wildlife. Continue straight as Goshen Road becomes Shore Road.
Follow Shore Road around the curve and to the end of the road. Beyond the lovely houses in this area you can catch glimpses of Jordan Cove and feel the light salty breeze.
At the end of Shore Road, as you turn right onto Lamphere Road, you are greeted with a long hill that rises at an angle around 30-40 degrees. Lamphere is a relatively straight road that you follow until it intersects with Great Neck Road.
You cross over Great Neck and start a small downhill piece on Braman Road. Braman offers a fair amount of shade from the lush greenery that surrounds it, but offers no sidewalks. The rolling hills of Braman Road end with a slight incline.
At the stop sign at the end of the road you take a sharp right onto Dimmock Road. Dimmock takes you past picturesque Harkness Park, where you may spot ducks, heron, egrets and other water fowl.
In the Harkness area Dimmock rejoins with Great Neck Road which you follow until you arrive back at the Great Neck School.
Free parking is available at Great Neck Elementary School after school hours.
Directions from Hartford:
Take Route 2 to Route 11 (New London). Turn left at the end of Route 11 onto Route 82, and proceed to the traffic light. Turn right onto Route 85 - Hartford Road. Proceed 15-20 miles to the I-395 overpass. At the next traffic light, turn right onto Cross Road. At the end of Cross Road, turn left onto Route 1 - Boston Post Road. Continue on Route 1 (past cemetery on right). At the next traffic light, make a right onto Avery Lane. Follow to traffic light (intersection of Route 1). Go straight through onto Great Neck Road. Proceed approximately 2 1/4 miles, and Great Neck School will be on the right.
Directions from New Haven:
Take 1-95 North to Exit 75 for Waterford (Route 1 - Boston Post Road). Continue on Route 1 (past cemetery on right), and at the next traffic light, make a right onto Avery Lane. Follow to traffic light (intersection of Route 1). Go straight through onto Great Neck Road. Proceed approximately 2 1/4 miles, and Great Neck School will be on the right.
Directions from Providence:
Take l-95 South to the Cross Road exit. Turn left at end of ramp, and at light turn left onto Cross Road. At the end of Cross Road, turn left onto Route 1 - Boston Post Road. Continue on Route 1 (past cemetery on right), and at the next traffic light, make a right onto Avery Lane. Follow to traffic light (intersection of Route 1). Go straight through onto Great Neck Road. Proceed approximately 2 1/4 miles, and Great Neck School will be on the right.
Directions from Norwich:
Take I-395 South to Exit 77 (Waterford - Route 85). Turn left at end of ramp, onto Route 85 -Hartford Road. At the next traffic light, turn right onto Cross Road. At the end of Cross Road, turn left onto Route 1 - Boston Post Road. Continue on Route 1 (past cemetery on right), and at the next traffic light, make a right onto Avery Lane. Follow to traffic light (intersection of Route 1). Go straight through onto Great Neck Road. Proceed approximately 2 1/4 miles, and Great Neck School will be on the right.
